Our Philosophy on Education
If we begin to value who children are, not just what we want them to be, a shift happens in the way we think about learning and teaching.
At the Silverado Children’s Center, a child’s inherent desire to learn is acknowledged and facilitated. Critical thinking is enhanced and developed through a variety of curriculum strands. Children learn self reliance, communication skills and respect for others through hands on experiences. Children learn to live fully and joyfully and ultimately become self motivated problem solvers with an abiding curiosity about the world.

A key facet of our mission is a focus on the environment. The setting of Silverado Canyon provides endless opportunities for children to experience nature firsthand and discover the scientific processes involved. We believe that a connection to nature reduces stress and allows students to thrive in all academic subjects. SCC also hopes to inspire the next generation to be leaders in caring for the planet.

NEW! Learning Links for Parents and Children ages 3 to 6 years old
Spend a morning of learning with your child! This is an innovative program that develops a positive relationship between you and your child. At our facility you have the opportunity to use interactive learning games, educational supplies and direct support from early age educators.

Days and Hours: Mondays and Fridays from 9am-12pm
Cost:
$15/per child per day

Parents and guardians with children ages 3yrs -6yrs are welcome to drop in and participate during these open sessions.
Parents and guardians must stay with their child.

Learning Link provides parents and their children structured parent/child learning activities and informal one-on-one support that promotes child development. This is a great opportunity for children who are home-schooled to socialize with other kids their age. We provide resources for parents to better understand how to teach their children significant cognitive and other skills.

After School Program for ages 5 to 12 years old
Silverado Children’s Center offers homework supervision, tutoring, and recreational activities in a beautiful and stimulating environment. Our curriculum encourages children to explore and enjoy natural beauty and to learn by exploring the world around them.

Enhanced Summer Program for ages 3 to 12 years old
This five-day a week, full day program is packed with learning activities, educational field trips and in-class workshops. Learning modules are tied to the canyon’s unique natural environment and each child will design and implement at least one environmentally oriented project. This program helps continue the legacy of caring for and protecting the environment that is a key part of the canyon’s history.

NEW! Community Garden
Our organic vegetable garden is a proud new addition to the center! Children learn the science of plant growth, committment to the garden success and best of all....the excitement of eating what they have grown with their own little hands! Parents and community members are encouraged to come visit our garden, plant seeds, starter vegetables and herbs, or simply help us with daily weeding and watering!
